If you have a serious illness you need good nutrition, and often GPs and specialists lack the time or training to respond to questions patients may have about foods, supplements and lifestyle changes. Having an Accredited Practicing Dietitian will greatly enhance the management of chronic illness or recovery from an injury or non life-threatening complaint.
Medical Nutrition Therapy can assist with many illnesses including

Whether you want to supplement your medical care, or address side effects of medication, Nastaran can assist to improve your diet and enable your GP to reduce non-essential medication. Pain management, fatigue, mood and sleep disorders are other areas in which nutrition can be very helpful in dealing with your illness and supporting recovery.
Initial Consultation (1hr) – $140.00
These are one-on-one consultations face-to-face, via telephone or email.
Your first consultation is longer and includes getting to know you (collecting information about your personal history, medical history as well as your diet history and activity levels), discussing the reason you have been referred, discuss your goals for improving your health and the health outcomes possible, and providing dietary advice and written information to help you improve the management of your condition.
Your first appointment is likely to take 60 minutes and sometimes longer. You need to bring the following to your appointment:
- Your referral letter or EPC (Medicare form) from your GP (if you were referred for face-to-face consultations)
- Your food record / diary if you have been asked to keep one.
- A list of medications.
- Dietary advice previously given.
- Blood sugar records, if applicable.
- Test results, if applicable.
You can bring a friend, relative or carer to the appointment if you find this helpful.
Your doctor will be informed of any dietary treatment recommended (if your were referred).
Review Consultation (30min) – $70.00
If Nastaran needs to see you again, she will agree this with you and explain how the followup appointment is made and how long this will take. Generally followup appointments are 30 minutes long. Depending on your individual circumstances and medical conditions, visits can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. It is preferable to visit Nastaran weekly at the beginning for a few sessions and then less frequently until you feel your are able to adequately manage your condition.

Home visits – available at no extra cost if your doctor referral requires it.
Consultation fees are payable on the day. Credit Card, EFTPOS and HICAPS facilities are available. Fees are claimable through most health funds, depending on your level of cover. Fees are claimable through Medicare if you have an Enhanced Care Plan (see your GP for further information).
